BIOGRAPHY Bob Marstall was born in Pittsburgh, PA, grew up in St. Louis, MO, majored in painting at nearby Webster College (now Webster University) and went to graduate school at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). Since then he has lived and worked in the small "Pioneer Valley" town of Northampton, MA, home of Calvin Coolidge, Smith College, Eric Carle, and Mordicai Gerstein (winner of the 2004 Caldecott Medal for "The Man Who Walked between the Towers"). After teaching art for a number of years in elementary, middle and high schools, Bob began his illustration career in 1983 with "young adult" book jackets, chapter books, textbooks, advertising, editorial art, and picture books. Since 1994, he has focused exclusively on illustrating nature-oriented nonfiction picture books for children and on exploring the boundaries between art and science. LEARN MORE ABOUT BOB MARSTALL
