Gerald does storytelling workshops which are hands-on programs to help children and teachers with the art of tribal storytelling. Combined with this is the application of the oral story as a tool to facilitate writing and reading.

He also does inspirational talks and motivational programs for students, teachers and parents.

With his co-author and researcher wife, Loretta, Gerald also does a special program on researching and writing skills, how to get published, how to get along with an editor, and how to make a living as an author.

    A WORD FROM GERALD HAUSMAN

"I was a teacher for eighteen years before I left the classroom to become a full-time writer. However, I never really abandoned the classroom at all because it kept calling me back, which is why I like to do programs for kids. At the end of the day I may look a little tired, but I am not. I get inspiration and motivation from my students as much as they get boundless enthusiasm from me — we kind of play off each other, sharing and experiencing the fun of using words, sparking the imagination, and being creative in a free-form, spontaneous way. That is what good storytelling is all about, presenting yourself in a forthright way with very little inhibition, just enjoying yourself as much as your listeners are enjoying your stories. I never tire of this, and my mother who was a teacher and teller herself, started me off quite early. By the time I was in grade school, I led the assemblies with a flag salute and the annoucements of the day. In high school I did announcements on the loud speaker system and I told stories in the back of the bus going home. I was never without a story. That's how I began as a writer.

    FEES
